Explanation of Astrologers Aptitude Assessment Rating

This aptitude assessment is primarily designed as an indication of a person’s natural ability to “practice” the profession of astrology. Such a distinction of “practice” underscores the difference between the student of astrology and the successful practitioner.

For example, a student of astrology may be technically brilliant regarding their ability to analyze the details of an astrological chart but lack the ability to convey this information in a relevant, easily understood and sympathetic manner. However, a practicing astrologer must be able to relate the chart readily to their client. This ability to relate the chart requires good communication skills, intuition and a genuine desire to help others - attributes similar to say that of a counselor or psychologist.

However, the diagnostic structure of astrology is quite technical, the details of which require a logical or even analytical mind. After all, it’s called astro-“logic”-al. Thus, it is the combination of “feeling & logic” that rate the highest points in the assessment rating, for both intuitive and analytical skills are necessary. Intuition does rate higher, by itself, than logic alone, but both “hemispheres” are needed. Someone who is primarily intuitive could certainly practice astrology successfully - the symbolism of astrology does tend to stimulate intuitive faculties - but they would have to work harder in developing the more critical deductive skills involved in analyzing a chart. The question about “solving riddles and puzzles” or the one about “analyzing people” emphasize the importance of logic, but the ideal is logic partnered with intuition.

Most of the questions are rather obvious and of a subjective nature. Thus, this assessment is limited by the degree of one’s self-knowledge or self-awareness. The last 4 questions deal more directly with specific knowledge pertinent to astrology, i.e. a basic grasp of geometry in terms of geometric relationships, plus basic astronomical knowledge about our solar system, including the 12 zodiac signs. Of course, one could score 0 on the last 4 questions and still fall within a high aptitude range. If you are interested in astrology, don't be discouraged by a low aptitude number. Some brilliant astrologers have contributed greatly to the field, not as practitioners, but as ingenious theoretical and technical astrologers. Science minded individuals curious about astrology tend to enjoy the variety of numerical systems and the statistical possibilities and their many applications. However, the individual who seeks to make-a-living as an astrologer needs “people skills” and a blend of feeling and logic to establish and maintain their practice.
